Mental Workout - Unit 4

The concept of "Mental Workout" is being able to open our hearts and mind to further development. When we can allow ourselves to focus on our well-being, we will be able to give others what we expect to get back. Loving-kindness helps us open our hearts to others and diminish self-centeredness. When we give willing of our love it attracts the loving-kindness that we want and deserve. The subtle mind reminds us that we can cultivate wisdom by taming and training our mind. Mental workout helps us reach that deeper level by training our minds to having positive thoughts, feelings, and images.

  1. You know, it takes alot of work to open our hearts to those who we have an issue with, but when we push through those negative feelings towards that person and show them loving-kindness anyway, that's when I believe we grow psychologically. I guess that's why it's called a "Mental Workout", because it's mentally draining to do right when we really don't want to do right.

  2. I feel like we are putting ourselves above the negative feelings and looking beyond them. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to do that. I also think that it confuses other people at times, which is a bit amusing at times.

  3. Hi there! I enjoyed reading this. This really does take work. It seems that society as a whole is trained to do more of the opposite. But it can be changed for the better, starting with ourselves. If we show love, we are more likely to receive it. It is a step in growth, both psychologically and spiritually. It just takes a change of mindset, a choice.

  4. Wow, your words are inspiring! Great description of embracing love and kindness. You are correct about the mental workouts. I see them as a way to strengthen the mind, wether positive or negative. I wonder if the same thing goes for stress. The more you let stressful behavior and thoughts control you, the more you are engraining stress into your life...So, it might make sense that the same would go for the positive aspects as well. :)

  5. I totally agree that when you give love you recieve live but that is not saying that you will also run into people who have a bad attitude toward life itself. People who are rude to others are usually not happy at all with life itself. I look forward to helping others like this experience optimal health and happiness.
